Hello Baseball Geeks,

Thanks to all of you who provided feedback on the results of my first fantasy baseball draft. An update, based on information from podcast #7, Paul Lo Duca is subtracted from the team for the addition of Rod Barajas. The Ranger’s catcher ranked higher in the player track system and the power numbers are great for a #2 catcher in case Mauer suffers the injury bug again. Jacques Jones is also available as a free agent and I am considering picking him up and dropping either A. LaRoche or M. Jacobs. Thoughts? The reason I would do this is my team is deep at 1st base with M. Teixeira, C. Tracy, C. Shelton plus LaRoche and Jacobs and the outfield I will field is suspect. For the fantasy geeks among us I will continue to post about issues regarding my teams.

Starting a new week and a new baseball season I think I will take a moment to outline my hopes and dreams for this blog. My hope is to add to the interesting discussion on the baseball geek’s site. Obviously my focus will be on my team the Detroit Tigers and more broadly on the AL Central. My wish is to increase dialogue with fellow Tiger’s fans and with fans of other AL Central squads. However, my interest expands beyond the realm of the Tigers and I will address general baseball issues and stories as well. For spring training I will come out with a schedule of topics to be addressed. Some of these things will be predictions for each of the divisions. My dream is that fellow baseball geeks will post their predictions and possibly we can set up some sort of competition based on these. If nothing else it will be fun to look back on the end of the year for bragging rights. Throughout the year I will keep up-to-date on issues affecting the Tigers. During spring training I will focus on the positional battles brewing in Tiger’s camp. I hope to start this week with the pitchers. Also the Tiger’s farm system and draft will be covered. Obviously, the fantasy aspect of baseball can not be ignored by any baseball geek. I am a baseball purist so initially I held reservations about fantasy baseball, but these two are not dichotomous. My goal is to outline a schedule of topics for spring training, which will require me to get out a calendar.

I just finished listening to podcast #7 this morning and want to give a shout out and thanks to Rob and Greg for the plug. I appreciate the support and hopefully this baseball geekdom will continue to grow.

OE out

While Jacobs has the most upside, he's probably gonna struggle in his new role. The "D-Train and pray for rain" philosophy is gonna take it's toll on all the youngster in Florida. In the end, I'd probably drop him, considering that there are two or three firstbasemen in his same situation on the waiver already (insider info ). LaRoche is still a year away from the magic age, but will probably still have a career year, (25/85/.275) would be my guess.

There was a good article on Zumaya posted on detroittigers.com today. It looks like he's not gonna go back to AAA without a fight.
