All good things must come to an end. The scoreless streak for Mike Maroth ended at 20.2 innings. The first run followed an error. Carlos Guillen’s throwing error with two outs allowed Cabrera to reach second. Garrett Anderson followed with a RBI single to score the unearned run. The next batter Vlad, bombed a 2-run homer to left. To give the Angels a 3-0 lead. The defense let Maroth down as he would have been out of the inning 1-2-3 without the throwing error. Detroit committed another error in the fifth helping the Angels score another run. Maroth gave up four runs in six innings.

Maroth had his worst outing of the year, but it really didn’t matter. The Tigers offense was again shut down by the Angels pitching. They were shut out for the second time in the three game series. Detroit managed only one hit in eight innings off Lackey and one hit in the ninth off Shields. This was an extremely disappointing effort to end the road trip. However, the west coast swing was positive for the Tigers as they went 6-3 taking 2 out of 3 series. The Tigers head back home to face the division rival Twins.

How is it possible for this offense to struggle?! Even against the best pitchers in the league you should get a run or two. Sometimes you run into a hot pitcher but with the guys the Tigers have they should be able to manufacture something. But, a 6-3 road trip is not bad at all. It would have been nice to take all three series though.

Too bad for Maroth as well. Errors have cost this team a couple of games already, I think. Who knows how things would have eneded up if they had a 1-2-3 inning instead of an error!

I agree about the offense. Getting shut out twice in a three game series is disappointing. However, you are right also about the 6-3 west coast trip being a huge positive. I will take that any time. It looks like Detroit is having the offensive explosion tonight at home. Their pitching continues to exceed expectations early in the year. Let's hope it continues.
