33-1. That was the margin of victory for the Tigers in the 3 games dismantling of the Twins. Sunday’s game was just the latest in a series of great performances by the Tigers starting pitcher. Kenny Rogers tossed 8 scoreless innings allowing only two hits to Minnesota and being backed up by strong defense. Todd Jones pitched the ninth to get some work in. Sunday marked the fifth team shut out of the month of April for Detroit, which sets a new team mark for the month of April.

The offense again took advantage of poor pitching by the Twins. Marcus Thames is on one of his power streaks blasting a 2 run shot in the fifth 375 ft to left center. Thames muscled a low outside pitch over the visiting bullpen. After hovering around the Mendoza line with a 0-19 stretch he has raised his average to .289. Vance Wilson came up huge for Detroit clearing the bases in the sixth with a 3 RBI double. Wilson came around to score the final run on a single by Polanco. Vance Wilson has been much improved offensively in his back-up role this year. Now he is hitting .353 on the season.

Detroit finished the month of April at 16-9 their best mark as a team since the glory days of 1984. The Tigers have the second best record in the AL and are 1.5 games behind the World Series Champion White Sox. I don’t think it is too early to start counting down the magic number for the AL Wildcard It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can keep this momentum riding into May.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Marcus Thames – 2-3 a HR, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, .289 AVG
#2 Vance Wilson – 3-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI, .353 AVG
#1 Kenny Rogers – Win (4), 8 IP, 2 Hs, 0 Rs, 1 BB, 4 Ks, 2.59 ERA

On Tap – Game 26 (16-9) v. Kansas City (5-17) May 1st, 7:05 ET
Jeremy Bonderman (2-2, 5.04) v. Runelvys Hernandez (1-0, 1.29)

We all knew Thames would bust out again eventually! Or maybe it was just me and Leyland. What an amazing series! It's good to see them win at home too! They better continue and crush the Royals!
