I had a strong feeling going into this game Bonderman would be dominant. The Tigers pitching staff has been incredibly good so far this season and Bondy has the worst ERA of any of the starters. He is a competitive guy who wants to be an ace. He pitched like one on Monday. Jeremy struck out nine while walking one batter and allowed only four hits. Bonderman threw eight shut out innings (94 pitches) before giving way to Todd Jones for the save opportunity. Bonderman was not given the chance to finish the game despite his relatively low pitch count. I was a little surprised by this, but I am not going to second guess Leyland with the way the team is playing. Jones earned the save, but not before making things interesting. He inherited a 3-0 lead and end up surrendering 2 runs and allowed the winning runs to reach base.

Detroit scored their three runs with the long ball. Magglio Ordonez hit a solo shot in the fourth inning off Hernandez. The Tigers got insurance runs with two outs in the seventh with Guillen aboard Craig Monroe hit a two-run homer. The offense cooled off compared to the pounding of the Twins. However, with the great pitching they scored enough to get the victory.

The strong starting pitching continues for Detroit. According to stats on the Tigers Website the starters lead the AL in wins, hit per nine and base runners per nine innings. In the last 13 games they have averaged 7 innings per start while going 9-3 with a 1.89 ERA. The Tigers are starting to create some buzz around the Motor City, especially now that the Red Wings tanked again in the first round of the NHL playoffs and the Lions draft is over. Despite to loss of the Wings the Tigers and Pistons are making it a great time to be a Detroit sports fan. Although it would be nice if the White Sox eventually lost a game so the Tigers could pick up a game.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Magglio Ordonez – 1-4 with a run scored on a HR
#2 Craig Monroe – 1-3 with a run scored on a 2 run HR
#1 Jeremy Bonderman – Win (3), 8 IP, 4 Hs, 0 Rs, 1 BB, 9 Ks, 3.99 ERA

On Tap – Game 27 (17-9) v. Kansas City (5-18) May 2nd, 7:05 ET
