Sweep. Detroit completed the first ever franchise sweep of the Indians at Jacobs field. The Tigers came from behind scoring 3 runs in the seventh and waited out a 59 minute rain delay to take advantage of sloppy Cleveland play. Cleveland took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on three straight singles and an error by Magglio Ordonez. The error allowed the run to score so the only run Maroth allowed was unearned. Detroit tied the game in the seventh on a double by Monroe driving in Guillen. They took the lead as two runs scored on a ground ball off the bat of Vance Wilson that turned into an error on the first baseman Perez. Wilson got one RBI on the play and the other run was unearned. Maroth planned on coming out for the bottom of the seventh, but a rain delay sent him from the game. He gave way to bullpen that gave up a run, but preserved the lead for Maroth. Mike is now 6-0 in his career at the Jake.

Jason Grilli pitched the seventh following the rain delay. He came out to start the eighth and gave up a free pass. Jamie Walker came in to face Hafner who battled for nine pitches before doubling to put the tying runs on second and third. Joel Zumaya came in and struck out Martinez on a 97 mph fastball. The second out of the inning came on a sac fly by Ben Broussard moving the tying run to third. The Tigers chose to intentionally walk the hot-hitting Casey Blake and Zumaya got Belliard to line-out to center. Todd Jones received the night off so Fernando Rodney came on for the save opportunity. He gave a four pitch walk to Aaron Boone. The next batter Sizemore attempted to advance the runner with a bunt, however Wilson made a gutsy play throwing to second where Guillen made a great stretching scoop on a one-hopper to force Boone out. Rodney struck out the next batter before giving up another walk to make things interesting. With the winning run on base Hafner drove a change up toward left field. Fortunately for the Tigers the ball died on the warning track and ended up in the glove of Granderson. Rodney ended up with his sixth save on the year.

Detroit is now more than 10 games above .500 for the first time since 1993. They swept the Indians by allowing only six runs in three games and outscoring the Tribe by five runs. The pitching of Rogers, Bonderman and Maroth was absolutely fabulous. The Tigers moved into a first place tie for a few hours with the White Sox who play a Sunday night game. Chicago won to move a half game in front of Detroit. They look to extend their four game win streak on Tuesday and are licking their chops at the prospect of facing Kyle Lohse again. Detroit has already teed-off on Lohse for two victories this year.
