Detroit just keeps playing well on the road against weaker opponents. The Tigers fell behind early in this game to the Royals 4-0 after three innings. Kenny Rogers was not fooling any of the KC hitters as he allowed five runs on ten hits including four home runs. Despite the struggles he did keep the Tigers in the game and ate up some innings by pitching into the seventh.

The Tigers offense started the late inning comeback in the sixth inning. Carlos Guillen got things going with a two run homer his sixth of the season. Detroit pulled within a run to 4-3 with a run in the top of the seventh. Inge led off with a bunt single and scored on a double by Granderson.

KC hit their final home run off Rogers in the bottom of the inning to go back up by two. However, Detroit took the lead in the top of the eighth and never looked back. The first two batters of the inning struck out before Craig Monroe’s walked started the four run rally. Infante followed with a single and Inge drove in Monroe with a RBI single. Granderson gave Detroit the lead with a two run double and scored on Polanco’s single. Monroe added a run scoring single in the ninth for the final run.

Joel Zumaya retired the final two outs in the seventh and benefited from the offensive explosion in the eighth. Zumya worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth for his second victory of the year. Todd Jones racked up his 14th save holding the Royals off the board in the ninth.
