How good is this Verlander kid? He helps the Tigers extend their winning streak to eight games allowing only one run in seven strong innings of work. Verlander shows great control only walking one batter while striking out five. Justin is making a strong case for rookie of the year and if it wasn’t for Papelbon in Boston would be the run away favorite. Verlander earned his seventh victory on the season and lowered his ERA to an incredible 2.55.

Magglio Ordonez powered the offense with a two run homer in the bottom of the first. That would be all the support Verlander needed. Detroit added an insurance run in the eighth on a run scoring single by Polanco. Fernando Rodney worked the eighth for his seventh hold. Todd Jones picked up his 16th save. Detroit goes for the sweep on Sunday against their former teammate Jason Johnson.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Todd Jones – Save (16), 1 IP, 1 H, 0 Rs, 3.12 ERA
#2 Magglio Ordonez – 1-3 with a run scored, a HR and 2 RBI
#1 Justin Verlander – Win (7), 7 IP, 7 Hs, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 Ks, 1 HR, 2.55 ERA

On Tap – Game 50 (35-14) v. Cleveland Indians (23-25) May 28th, 1:05 ET
Kenny Rogers (7-2, 3.32) v. Jason Johnson (2-4, 6.52)

To answer your question . . . Verlander is frickin sweet! And so is Marcus Thames. 8 in a row! Say what you want about how Cleveland and KC are playing it's still 8 in a row!
