Detroit’s bullpen came through again verses the Blue Jays after being demolished in the opener of the series. Joel Zumaya picked up his first, of what I predict will be many, career save. He pitched the final three innings with efficiency striking out four and not surrendering a hit. Zumaya now has a 2.25 ERA. Not too bad for a twenty-one year old rookie. The end of the Tigers bullpen appears to be in good shape for the foreseeable future.

Nate Robertson did not have his best stuff, but hung in for his sixth victory. He went five innings giving up five hits and four runs on three walks and eight strike outs. Nate struggled giving up three home runs; however his ERA is only 3.50 in 2006. Jason Grilli gave up a run on four hits in the sixth.

Detroit’s offense took advantage of the young Toronto hurler Ty Taubenheim and the bullpen. The Blue Jays sent out six pitches all of whom gave up at least one run to the Tigers. Pudge had a great game with five RBI include a three run double and a two-run home run. Carlos Guillen added three RBI with a sac fly and a single. Omar Infante and Chris Shelton drove in the other runs. The Tigers bench came through as Omar Infante had two hits as did Ramon Santiago, who also scored three runs. Pudge and Shelton both picked up their 30th RBI on the year and Guillen now has 35. Detroit returns to Copa to face the Devil Rays. Game One of the series is a great young pitching match-up between Verlander and Kazmir.
