This is exactly what everyone expected to happen. Nate Robertson out-pitched the Rocket and Detroit shutout the ‘Stros for their fifth straight victory. Also not too shabby is the fact they have won 15 out of the last 17 games and continue to remain in first place in the AL Central.

Nate Robertson was brilliant over seven scoreless innings. “Gum Time” helped the Tigers score three runs in the seventh to get the victory for Big Nate Chew (If you need the background on the nickname check out Robertson’s MLBlogs). Clemens walked two straight batters in the bottom of the seventh inning before exiting the game. Dan Wheeler couldn’t keep the Tigers off the board as Craig Monroe doubled in two before scoring on a fielding error later in the inning.

With the 3-0 lead going into the eighth Joel Zumaya came on and held Houston off the board striking out two. Alexis Gomez hit his first home run in the bottom of the eighth to take the save opportunity away from Jones. He went on to pitch a scoreless ninth to preserve the goose egg.
