Kenny Rogers did what a good 1st starter should do when he ended the Tigers 4 game losing streak. Rogers (2-1, 3.26) was very sharp, especially with men on base, keeping the Indians hitters off balance. A promising stat for Tigers’ fans is Roger’s record against the AL Central last season was dominant. Thus far he has started well against the Royals and Indians. Rogers gave the bullpen a rest after the crazy game yesterday going eight innings before giving way to Fernando Rodney who got the last three outs.

The biggest difference between this game and the previous four during the losing streak was the solid starting pitching. Holding the high potent Indians offense to one run is impressive. Detroit also played solid defense despite one error. Guillen made a number of spectacular plays at short to help end Cleveland rallies.

Chris Shelton started the offense for the Tigers in the 2nd inning. He tripled in Magglio Ordonez, but was stranded at third with only one out. Brandon Inge started his big power day in the third inning with a homer to make it 2-0. Curtis Granderson hit his third of the year for back-to-back blasts. Inge supplied the rest of the offense for the Tigers with a two run home run his forth to give Detroit a 5-0 lead.

The cushion was plenty for Rogers who gave up his only run in the sixth following a double by Hafner who eventually came around to score. This was a good win for the Tigers against a quality opponent. Detroit continues to hit home runs at an amazing pace. This is particularly impressive at spacious Comerica Park. Hopefully Bonderman can keep the solid pitching going against a youngster making his first start.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Curtis Granderson – 2-4 with one run, a HR and one RBI
#2 Kenny Rogers – 8 IP, 7 H, 1 run, 1 ER, 3BB, 5 Ks, 3.26 ERA for the win
#1 Brandon Inge – 2-3 with two runs scored, 2 HRs and 3 RBIs
